EPAD Supported Residencies - update summer 2024

EPAD Supported Residencies

We are delighted to report that our first 5 Supported Residencies have taken place and have been succesful in providing valuable opportunities for Edinburgh-based performing arts practitioners to develop new work and establish a relationship with their host venue.  In May and June we supported the following residencies:

  • Singer and Actor Anna Vanosi, working with WHALE Arts

  • Choreographer, performer and facilitator Hannah Venet, working with Lyra Theatre

  • Singer-Songwriter Marie-Gabrielle Koumenda, working with Dance Base

  • Theatre practitioner Erin Boulter, working with Summerhall

  • Actress, aerialist, writer and physical theatre performer Susannah Laing, working with Assembly Roxy

The feedback confirms the need for funded and flexible residencies of this nature within Edinburgh:

'It was the first time I have had a residency where there wasn't pressure to have a product or outcome. This felt incredibly freeing and luxurious. I felt privileged to have space and time to think, move and dream up ideas.'

Artists for the second set of Supported Residencies have been identified through our random selection process, and we are happy to be supporting the following partnerships in the autumn:

  • Artist and teacher, Marilyn Blyth Wilson working with North Edinburgh Arts

  • Writer Hannah Low, working with the Traverse Theatre

  • Writer/Director Izzy Gray, working with the Scottish Storytelling Centre

We will update on the outcome of these residencies later in the year, along with our impact analysis of our ongoing Supportive Conversations programme.

We are very grateful to City of Edinburgh Council for making these programmes possible.
